My First Day as a Lawyer

Although my heart is in medicine, I also thought it would be interesting to be a lawyer. So today, September 28th, 2016, I became one for about an hour. I went back in time with my team to argue State for the State V. Man case. Thankfully, I got to argue against slavery so it seemed more natural.
Honestly, I was rather intimidated the day before the class. I did not really know what to expected. I was not sure what the set up was going to be. I have never been to a real hearing so I really had nothing to base it off of. Would it be like Legally Blonde? I sort of figured no, but if so I would of been all right. I prepared all of my notes on flashcards the night before. They were placed on top of my backpack so I would not forget them or lose them.
The morning of the trial, I was nervous but got comfort in knowing that everyone else was as well. I was the second person to speak which means I could get it over and done with. I was also hoping for brownie points as well. When I got up there, I was a little nervous but not as bad as before. Finally when I began to speak, I actually liked it. It wasn't intimidating because I had all the prepared information in front of me. I also had a strong team that had strong arguments against slavery.
It was weird to hear that Man won, meaning that slavery and abuse against slaves is legal. However, in a historically point of view, at the time this would be the right decision. Although I lost as my first day as a lawyer, it was a fun experience.
