College Campus CrIsis

It seems that since I have started watching the news, college campuses are often mentioned due to violence or controversy. And that it is truly just sad. Most of these events have been caused by students. Why would someone harm the people that he/she go to school with? College is meant to be a time and place to have fun while preparing for the future.
Early today, there was an attack at Ohio State, a massive state school known for football. The suspect is a twenty year old student who transferred in from community college. His name is Abdul Razak Aku Artan. Arian was born in Somalia but lives in the USA as a legal permanent resident. He decided to drive his car into a group of people and then get out and stab others with a butcher knife.
Investigators discovered a Facebook post before the attack where he expressed anger about the treatment of Muslims around the world. This leads them to believe that this was a terrorist attack, but his motives still are not determined. He had no previous records of behavioral problems. Police later killed him.
Now, if he was upset with the treatment of Muslims, he has full legal rights as a citizen to express them. However, murdering several and harming even more is NOT considered expressive action. And any sane citizen knows this, which leads me to think that he was mentally ill.
Also, whenever an event like this occurs, the media blows up the story. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? By stating the facts, people can learn more about the situation. However, it may also give ideas to future attackers. Are we glorifying violence with out speech amendment?
