What does freedom mean?

I am more than blessed to live in one of the most free countries in the world. In the First Amendment, we are granted the freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. But what exactly does that mean?

This week I am back in Massachusetts for fall break. However, a news story from North Carolina caught me eye.

Earlier today, a local Republican Party office was damaged in a fire. However, it was the spray-painted anti- GOP slogan on a nearby wall that made this a crime. This was not an accident. In the town of Hillsborough, a bottle filled with flammable liquid was thrown in the window of the Orange County Republican Party headquarters. It then caused fire and damaged the building and everything in it. To make it worse, an adjacent building was spray-painted with the words "Nazi Republicans leave town or else".

ARE YOU KIDDING? Again, I am not into politics, but since when did they become dangerous and violent? Although people can consider this expressive action, meaning it is legal to burn down a building and painted anti-republican pictures in favor of an opposing party, it is ILLEGAL. Nothing is legal if it means that it is damaged. This was not a way to say "I do not like republicans" but rather a way to become a criminal.
